TIM: Inter spoil Huntelaar debut

Even Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s debut failed to improve Milan’s pre-season, as they lost to Inter for the second time this summer.

The Rossoneri have been disastrous so far under Leonardo’s guidance, unable to win any of their friendly matches, so they went into the Trofeo TIM – a mini-tournament with 45-minute games against Inter and Juventus – struggling for confidence.


This performance won’t have improved that situation, although £12.5m signing Huntelaar made his debut alongside Alexandre Pato with Ronaldinho in a trequartista role.


Inter had lost their Trofeo TIM opener to Juventus on penalties following a 1-1 draw earlier on Friday evening.


Mario Balotelli turned out to be the star of this particular show, as early on he cracked one of his trademark free kicks against the crossbar.


After an eight-minute suspension caused by a blackout at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara, Inter took the lead through Balotelli nodding in a Ricardo Quaresma set piece.


The 18-year-old striker was allowed a free header by the shaky Milan defence and their front line didn’t do nearly enough to get them back into the game.


This is the second time this summer that Inter have won the ‘derby’, as they emerged 2-0 winners in Boston during the World Football Challenge.
