Seedorf

Seedorf, Borriello, Pato, Dinho

Player Ratings: Milan 4-3 Cagliari

The Serie A clash at San Siro ended in a 4-3 win for Milan. Goal.com rates the participants.

MILAN

Dida - 7.5: May have conceded three, but Milan would have lost today had the Brazilian not produced a string of superb saves - particularly in the first half.

Oddo - 5.5: Offered his support going forward, but often left his side open and did not have the legs to get back. At fault for Lazzari's goal.

Kaladze - 4.5: A really shaky performance from the Georgian, who lost Matri for his goal and committed numerous errors. Nesta was sorely missed.

Thiago Silva - 6: The Brazilian is a class act, but this wasn't one of his better days and he had too much to do playing alongside three veteran defenders.

Zambrotta - 5.5: Did not get out of second gear and this penalised Milan who really needed more urgency at times defensively. Was perhaps saving himself for midweek.

Pirlo - 5.5: A weak link for Milan today. Vulnerable when Cagliari attacked, and a little careless going forward himself as he wasted a number of counter-attacks.

Ambrosini - 6.5: Battled valiantly in midfield, and gave as good as he got against the likes of Conti and Dessena.

Seedorf - 8: A class act every time he touched the ball, and did not once waste possession. Always in control, always creative, Seedorf scored the first of the goals this afternoon.

Pato - 8: Electric performance from the young sensation. Scored Milan's third goal with a rocket, and was involved in two of the others.

Ronaldinho - 8: Not too involved in the opening stages, but then burst into life 10 minutes before half time and had a mesmerising second half. Assisted Milan's third goal, scored the fourth from the spot, and executed some delightful flicks and tricks.

Borriello - 8: A decisive game from the target man who, aside from holding the ball up, created Milan's first, scored the second and won the penalty for the fourth. A very fruitful outing.

Subs

Abate - 6: Added a threat on the counter.

Inzaghi - N/A Strasser - N/A

CAGLIARI

Marchetti - 6: Not to blame on any of Milan's goals, and actually made a miraculous stop from Pato seconds before Borriello equalised.

Canini - 4.5: Started well, but then had some real problems against Ronaldinho as he attacked his side.

Lopez - 4.5: Failed to marshal the Cagliari backline, who always looked like conceding when Milan attacked.

Astori - 4: Will want to forget today's game as soon as possible. Beaten to the ball by Pato before Borriello's goal and gave away the penalty with a foul on Borriello.

Agostini - 5: Struggled defensively, but delivered some nice crosses going forward.

Biondini - 6: Lots and lots of quantity in the middle of the park, but did not provide the moments of quality that he occasionally showed for Italy in midweek.

Dessena - 7: Is developing really nicely as a player over in Sardinia, and showed more promise for the future today.

Conti - 6.5: Stroked the ball around well, and kept things ticking for the away side.

Lazzari - 8.5: Absolutely brilliant today, and arguably the man-of-the-match. Milan could not handle him every time he came forward. Scored one, made two, and created a whole host of chances with his beautiful left foot.

Jeda - 8: The Brazilian always plays well against the big sides and it was no different today. Supplied two assists for Lazzari and Nene, and would have scored himself but for Dida.

Matri - 8: A game of two halves. Sensational in the first where he scored one and could have had a hat-trick of goals and assists. Frustrated after the break.

Subs

Nene - 7: A clinical finish from the Brazilian, who has had a bright start to Italian football.

Larrivey - 5: The flop missed a good chance to make it 4-4.

Pisano - N/A

Milan 4-3 Cagliari: Pato & Ronaldinho Clinch Seven-Goal Thriller
Milan's good form continues with a classic win...

Milan's upturn in fortunes continued at San Siro with a thrilling 4-3 win over Cagliari in the 13th matchday of Serie A.

Clarence Seedorf, Marco Borriello, Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho scored the goals for the home side in a see-saw encounter that will live long in the memory. Alessandro Matri, Andrea Lazzari and Nene replied for the visitors.

After a miserable start to the campaign under new coach Leonardo, the Rossoneri had been picking up recently and went into this game full of confidence.

Milan were not at full strength as Daniel Bonera, Oguchi Onyewu, Marek Jankulovski, Rino Gattuso and Mathieu Flamini were injured, with Alessandro Nesta suspended. Kakha Kaladze replaced the latter alongside Thiago Silva, while Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato and Marco Borriello launched a trident attack.

Cagliari, who had won four on the trot coming into the game, were minus star man Andrea Cossu who was banned. Lino Marzoratti and Francesco Pisano were injured as Alessandro Matri partnered Jeda up-front.

It took Milan just five minutes to break the deadlock, and it was Clarence Seedorf who got the goal. The Dutchman threaded through to Borriello, who turned the ball back into his path to sidefoot the ball home.

A couple of minutes later there was huge controversy as Matri raced onto Andrea Lazzari's pass and seemed to be taken down by Dida, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Matri soon had a smile on his face as, on nine minutes, he put Cagliari back on level terms, placing the ball into the bottom corner from Lazzari's hooked cross.

Lazzari and Matri were causing all kinds of problems, and the latter's powerful volley was pushed away with some difficult by Nelson Dida. On 19 minutes Dida produced a brilliant save from Jeda after good work again by Matri.

Dida was a busy man, and he saved well from Lazzari's header, before coming to the rescue once again from a Matri one-on-one.

A second Cagliari goal was inevitable, and it finally arrived on 28 minutes through Lazzari. The 25-year-old was completely unmarked at the back post from Jeda's pass, and he buried his angled drive into the far corner.

Milan had been second best, but an incredible burst before half time saw them score two goals in the space of a minute. First Borriello nodded home from a corner after Federico Marchetti somehow had clawed out Pato's initial header. Then, Pato arrowed home an unstoppable rocket into the top corner of the net to send the crowd berserk.

Milan carried on where they left off at the start of the second half, and Pato lashed wide from 25 yards out. The Brazilian also headed off-target.

Cagliari missed a good opportunity to equalise on 55 minutes, though, as Lazzari rose unmarked to head wide.

Milan were threatening on the counter, and just past the hour mark a break led to Borriello being taken down in the area by Davide Astori. The referee awarded a penalty, and Ronaldinho sent Marchetti the wrong way.

Dida continued his fine afternoon with another smart save from Daniele Conti, but the Brazilian could do nothing on 68 minutes as Cagliari substitute Nene re-opened the game by firing past the goalkeeper from Lazzari's through pass.

Another Cagliari substitute Joaquin Larrivey had the chance to make it 4-4 with five minutes remaining, but he headed straight at Dida from close range.

This success takes Milan temporarily up to second, while Cagliari's four-match winning streak comes to an end.
