Milan 3
1 Fiorentina    R-31    2006/3/25

因為隊長說:「I do need to play at the moment to regain my match fitness and am at Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, but I don’t think I’ll start the game against Lyon.

MALDINI:Crowd’s reception was great’

MILAN - Paolo Maldini was back on the field tonight after a long absence. He said: ‘The crowd’s reception really made me feel great, but above anything else I am happy to be back playing with my team. I am not used to being out and it was difficult. I hope that my physical problems are behind me. I can’t yet play for a whole game. I will have to play to get back into shape. The team are doing well. This point of the season is fundamental. We are patient. We suffered a bit in the first half, but then we fought for this win. We are finishing the league on a good beat and our points show this. We must acknowledge Juve for what they have done, but we have also done a lot. After a difficult moment, we are back at our usual level.’

Maldini 'not ready' for Lyon

Paolo Maldini made his comeback after four months out with a knee injury, but warns he probably isn’t fit enough to face Lyon on Wednesday.

“I do need to play at the moment to regain my match fitness and am at Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, but I don’t think I’ll start the game against Lyon,” noted the Milan captain.

The 37-year-old hadn’t made an official appearance since December 6 due to a recurring knee injury that some suggested would prompt an early retirement at the end of this season.

However, he played for the final 20 minutes of last night’s 3-1 win over Fiorentina and could show his face in the Champions League quarter-final in France next week.

Milan cut the gap from Serie A leaders Juventus to eight points, but Maldini is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

“We are happy with Saturday’s results because they allow us to go five points clear of Inter in the race for second place. We are going well, but must keep an eye on realistic objectives.”

Ancelotti in awe of Costacurta   2006/03/25

Carlo Ancelotti admits he was amazed by Alessandro Costacurta's performance, while Cesare Prandelli blames Fiorentina’s midweek strains for this defeat.

“At the moment we are playing good football, are solid and run few risks,” said the Rossoneri Coach after tonight’s 3-1 win. “We are also comforted by the five-point lead we now have over Inter in third place, as that is what counts in Serie A now.”

Milan have also closed the gap from Juventus to just eight points following the 1-1 draw at the Delle Alpi with Roma, but Ancelotti already has his eyes on the Champions League quarter-finals with Lyon.

“We struggled a little in the first half, but improved as time went on and ended the game attacking dynamically, which is very reassuring. We didn’t have to use up too much energy ahead of Wednesday’s game either.”

Alessandro ‘Billy’ Costacurta was one of the most impressive players of the night in a right-back role, despite the fact he turns 40 next month, while Paolo Maldini made his first appearance in four months.

“I embraced Billy when he left the field, as I really didn’t expect such a great performance from him,” added his former teammate Ancelotti. “He was a fantastic full-back tonight and exceptional for his dynamism, so we should all forget his age and look at the man. As for Maldini, it was a positive comeback and he has recovered from that knee injury.”
