* Liverpool 1 – 2 Arsenal

*Valencia 2 – 3 Real Madrid

*Atletico Madrid 1-2 Villarreal
(Reyes

24 Simon Kjaer & 42 Balzaretti

Kjaer vs Borriello

Balzaretti vs Pato

Milan-20091213-Palermo-nesta.jpg

so.....

SerieA R16
2009-1213

Player Ratings:
Milan 0-2 Palermo
The Serie A clash at San Siro ended in a 2-0 win for Palermo.

Dida - 6: Could do nothing on both goals that went past him, and largely did what could be expected of him.

Zambrotta - 5: After some improved recent displays, Zambrotta showed his age again today. Was tormented by Miccoli.

Nesta - 6.5: Was a one-man defence at times. Milan's backline looks so weak when either Thiago Silva or Nesta doesn't play.

Favalli - 4: Roasted time and again by the likes of Cavani and Miccoli. Favalli turns 38 next month and Milan risk a great deal every time he plays.

Antonini - 4.5: Did okay in the first half, but had a nightmare in the second period and was put on his backside by Miccoli before Bresciano's strike.

Pirlo - 6: Impressed in the first half where he had a 100 per cent pass completion rate. Completely disappeared in the second period.

Ambrosini - 5: Has been inspired in recent games, but not today. Lost the midfield battle to Bresciano and Nocerino.

Abate - 5.5: Worked hard but lacked the technical quality to trouble Balzaretti and was eventually hooked.

Seedorf - 7: Some moments of genius, including a brilliant solo run that almost ended in a goal. Missed a good chance too, but it wasn't his afternoon.

Ronaldinho - 7.5: Created at least three great opportunities for his team-mates, and confirmed that he is in his best form since arriving in Italy.

Borriello - 6: Held the ball up and was twice unlucky not to score, but was second best to Bovo and Kjaer.

Subs

Pato - 5: Replaced Abate but made no impact and missed a sitter in injury time.
Inzaghi - 6.5: A nuisance and twice threatened.
Flamini - N/A

PALERMO

Sirigu - 7: A confident display from the Italian who will continue to be preferred to Rubinho after today. Once excellent stop from Zambrotta.

Cassani - 6: Had a few problems against Ronaldinho, and couldn't prevent the Brazilian creating a number of chances.

Kjaer - 7:Showed why he is so highly touted for the future with a mature display at the back.

Bovo - 8: A rock in the middle of the defence. Borriello got very little change out of the stocky stopper.

Balzaretti - 7.5: Displayed real heart down the left hand side. Was not once taken on by Abate or Pato.

Nocerino - 7: Never stopped running, the ex-Juventus man closed down opponents and drove his side forward.

Liverani - 6: The veteran did not make too much of an impact. Neat and tidy, but it was those around him who did the damage.

Bresciano - 8: The key man in midfield. A complete performance from the Australian who was absolutely everywhere and scored the second goal.

Simplicio - 6.5: A solid physical performance by the Brazilian, who clocked up the miles. Missed a wonderful chance on 54 minutes.

Miccoli - 8.5: Simply unplayable this afternoon. Scored a brilliant first, was the architect behind the second after some spellbinding skill, and created other big chances. So sad that politics prevents him from playing for Italy.

Cavani - 7: Formed a fine partnership with Miccoli and evaded his markers constantly. Would have received a higher mark had he been more accurate in front of goal.

Subs

Pastore - 7: The ex-Huracan prodigy impressed after coming on and helped set up Bresciano's goal.
Budan - 6

賽事review

Milan 0-2 Palermo

Miccoli 49 (P), Bresciano 61 (P)

Milan's unbeaten run from September 23 is ended by Palermo's perfect display of counter-attacking football.

The Rossoneri were just four points off leaders Inter and right back in the thick of the Scudetto race. Qualification for the Champions League came at a price, as Thiago Silva's strain will keep him out for up to two months, joining Oguchi Onyewu, Massimo Oddo, Gennaro Gattuso and Daniele Bonera on the treatment table. With this in mind, Alexandre Pato was rested for a less unbalanced system.

Palermo's away record was one win, a draw and five defeats, while at San Siro they'd lost 19 of the 22 visits. Giulio Migliaccio was suspended, but Fabio Liverani and Fabrizio Miccoli returned from their bans.

Milan were looking for a sixth Serie A win on the bounce, but within 120 seconds Edison Cavani had flashed an angled drive across the face of goal from Miccoli's assist.

The Rosanero had a blistering start with Mark Bresciano testing Nelson Dida from distance and Antonio Nocerino drilling over.

Clarence Seedorf's cross-shot whistled across the face of goal with Marco Borriello sliding in a second too late to turn it in.

Bresciano was under pressure from Massimo Ambrosini to turn the angled drive across the face of goal, missing the far post by a matter of inches. At the other end Borriello had a very similar effort that shaved a coat of paint off the upright.

Moments later Gianluca Zambrotta also skimmed the woodwork from Seedorf's assist.

Palermo were again very aggressive after the restart ad took a deserved lead when Miccoli walked into the left side of the box and curled a magnificent right-foot finish into the far top corner. It was a special goal for the striker, who started his career in the Rossoneri youth squad.

Pato was thrown on for Ignazio Abate, but this left even more space on the counter and Simplicio failed to take advantage of Dida failing to meet a cross.

Borriello nodded a Ronaldinho corner into Salvatore Sirigu's arms, then Pato's shot was charged down after good work from Seedorf and just as Milan were putting on the pressure, Palermo doubled their lead with a counter.

Once again Miccoli was involved, as he surged forward down the left flank and kept a tricky ball in play, rolled through for Javier Pastore's effort palmed into the path of Bresciano.

Luca Antonini blasted wide and Pato accidentally got into the way of Ronaldinho's shot. On yet another counter Alessandro Nesta's last-ditch tackle proved decisive, while Sirigu got down to block a header from substitute Pippo Inzaghi.

Sirigu kept out a Mathieu Flamini screamer and Andrea Pirlo attempt, while Pato nodded Dinho's cross wide. From a corner the Palermo goalkeeper needed a great save to deny Zambrotta's strike with the outside of his right foot as it was flying into the near top corner.

Deep into stoppages Pato had the chance to open the game again, but hit an incredibly weak volley straight at Sirigu.
Milan: Dida; Zambrotta, Nesta, Favalli, Antonini; Pirlo, Ambrosini (Flamini 77); Abate (Pato 50), Seedorf (Inzaghi 69), Ronaldinho; Borriello

Palermo: Sirigu; Cassani, Kjaer, Bovo, Balzaretti; Nocerino, Liverani, Bresciano; Simplicio (Pastore 60); Cavani (Goian 91), Miccoli (Budan 68)
