PARIS - Andriy Shevchenko spoke to Milan Channel from Paris during the Golden Ball award: 'It was a wonderful evening, I think it was unforgetable and special for Ronaldinho. We were celebrating fifty years of this award and there were 25 or so past winners present who all applauded the Brazilian. It was an evening rich in emotion for him. Losing to Liverpool penalised Milan and if we had won in Istanbul the favourite would have been our own captain Paolo Maldini.'

MILANELLO – The Italian Cup returns tomorrow and Paolo Maldini underlines the importance of this competition for Milan: ‘The Italy Cup is not something to be thrown away, in the recent past it has also given us satisfaction. We remember all of the parties we had in 2003 because we won this trophy. It is an important opportunity for those that play less to be seen and for those that need to condition themselves to play. Therefore, it is an appointment that we must face with total seriousness.’ Regarding the players that might take the field for Milan, the Rossonero captain added: ‘We have many players that can play and make a big difference, just as you saw in Lecce with Inzaghi and Jankulovski. We were just coming from the difficult game against Fenerbahce and there was some fatigue, so we needed fresh forces. We have players that have great desire. Important players that are on the bench aren’t there voluntarily, but when they enter with the right determination and desire to show that they deserve to play, they can give you something extra that might win the game.’
On the problems of racism within the stadium and specifically Messina’s Zoro incident in which the player was insulted by Inter fans, Maldini commented: ‘It’s a pity. It is very bad and must be addressed and solved In addition for a team that has a lot of minority players, adored by their public, it is truly ugly.’
