哈….又一位Croatia人來攪局了

英格蘭在Euro2008被Croatia人踢出局之後
現在從足壇發展到網壇.....因為.....

在England vs Croatia的WC2010歐洲預賽開打之前

Sixteenth seed Cilic, yet another physically imposing player from Croatia blessed with a bullet serve, stayed with Murray in the first set before taking control after surviving his one tricky moment in the 10th game.

Dismal Murray crashes to defeat against Cilic

US Open - Murray sent crashing out by classy Cilic

Del Potro

Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs Fernando Verdasco (ESP)

Gal Monfils (FRA) or Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs Fernando Gonzalez (CHI)

Second seed Murray ousted from US Open tennis
2009-0908

NEW YORK (AFP) - British second seed Andy Murray was dumped from the US Open on Tuesday by Croatian 16th seed Marin Cilic, who reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The 22-year-old Scotsman, last year's US Open runner-up, was foiled in his bid to become the first British man to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry in 1936.

Cilic will play for a semi-final berth against Argentine sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro, who ousted Spanish 24th seed Juan Carlos Ferrero. Cilic lost their only prior meeting in this year's fourth round at the Australian Open.

In taking his first victory over a top-three opponent in seven attempts, Cilic fired 10 aces and 35 winners while Murray went 0-for-7 on break-point chances and made 41 unforced errors.

"I played very well and he was missing a lot," Cilic said. "I don't think he was playing his best."

Cilic, the youngest top-20 player at age 20, was relieved to finally break into the last eight at a slam after four prior runs were halted in the fourth round.

"That feels really amazing," Cilic said. "It feels great to win that extra set."

Murray had beaten Cilic in their three prior meetings, most recently in the fourth round of this year's French Open, but looked off-form from the start.

Murray had the first break-point chances of the match in the sixth game of the opening set, but a service winner by the Croatian and a wide crosscourt forehand by Murray enabled Cilic to hold for 3-3.

After rescuing a break point in the ninth game, Murray was thwarted on two break points in the 10th game, Cilic saving the first with an ace before Murray netted a backhand.

"That was the turning point," Cilic said. "It was a relief for me to get into the match and not be so into myself."

Revitalized Cilic pressed the attack to break Murray for a 6-5 edge, the deciding point coming when Murray's crosscourt forehand clipped the net cord and landed wide, and held to claim the set when Murray netted a backhand.

Moments later, Murray pushed a forehand volley wide to gift Cilic a break to begin the second set and dug the early hole deeper with a forehand beyond the baseline to hand the Croatian a 3-0 edge.

Cilic, serving for the set at 5-2, denied Murray on three break points with service winners and took the set on back-to-back aces, the last on a second serve that baffled the Briton, who swung below the ball and missed totally.

Murray had made three career comebacks from two sets down, one to beat Austrian Jurgen Melzer in the third round on his run to the 2008 US Open final.

But Murray netted a backhand from the baseline to surrender a break in the opening game of third set and when the Scotsman plunked a forehand shy of the net to conceed a break and trail 5-2, the end was nigh.

Cilic served out to end the rout after two hours eight minutes.

Dismal Murray crashes to defeat against Cilic
2009-0909

Five titles this year and a rise to number two in the rankings counted for nothing on Tuesday as Andy Murray's hopes of a first grand slam title were shot down by Marin Cilic in the fourth round of the U.S. Open.

Murray appeared in control as he held two set points with Cilic serving at 4-5 down in the first set but the man charged with ending Britain's interminable wait for a grand slam champion failed to convert either and he spiralled to a 7-5 6-2 6-2 defeat he described as the most disappointing of his career.

To make matters worse for the 22-year-old he ended the match with discomfort in his left wrist, although he admitted his emphatic defeat had simply come about because his often magical game had not been up to scratch.

"I had a problem with (the wrist) for a week or so," the right-hander, who reached the final here last year against Roger Federer and was widely tipped to go one better this time, told reporters. "But regardless, I just struggled today. I played poorly. I'm obviously very disappointed.

"After the way that the last three slams went I felt like I had actually played well and lost. Today, it didn't feel like that. I had my chance in the first set and then struggled."

Sixteenth seed Cilic, yet another physically imposing player from Croatia blessed with a bullet serve, stayed with Murray in the first set before taking control after surviving his one tricky moment in the 10th game.

As Murray retreated into his shell, the 20-year-old Cilic steamed into a 4-0 lead in the second set.

There was no escape, nor hiding place for Murray as his inspired opponent never flinched in closing out the biggest win of his career.

Throughout the entire three sets Murray managed just three winners from the baseline -- a statistic that summed up the subdued nature of the Scot's tennis.

"Sometimes in individual sports that can happen. That's the tough thing about it. You don't have any other players or anyone to sort of hide behind and can sort of cover for you," Murray said. "You have to take responsibility yourself.

"I think one of the things about me that I've been very good at the last couple of years is finding ways to get back into the matches mentally. But today I could have been better in pretty much every part of the game."

While Murray goes home to check out his wrist, Cilic will face Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro for a place in the semi-final. Both are younger than Murray and both appear equally capable of challenging Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for major silverware.

Winning his first slam will not, it seems, be getting easier for Murray any time soon, although he remains upbeat.

"I think next year I've got a very, very good chance of doing it. I think I'll be a better player next year."

US Open - Murray sent crashing out by classy Cilic
Eurosport -2009-0908

Croatian 16th seed Marin Cilic produced a dominant display to beat Andy Murray 7-5 6-2 6-2 and send the world number two crashing out of the US Open in the fourth round.

The Briton got off to a solid start, edging the early exchanges as he first held break points in the sixth game and then had set points in the 10th.

But it was Cilic who drew first blood, breaking in the 11th game as a Murray forehand caught the top of the tape and bounced wide.

From there the Croat did not look back, quickly gaining in confidence - especially off his forehand - and dropping just four more games in the next two sets.

Cilic will face sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro in his first Grand Slam quarter-final, with the Argentine similarly dominant against Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in a 6-3 6-3 6-3 victory.

Murray looked confident on serve at the start of the match, posting comfortable service holds, while punishing any indiscretion on the Cilic serve and in particular the Croat's second serve.

Cilic did well to hold his serve in the sixth game after riffling a forehand wide down the line to hand Murray the first break point of the match, and although the Croat held a break point of his own in the ninth game, the first set looked poised to go Murray's way just one game later when an error off the frame from Cilic left the Scot with two set points.

But the Croatian number one did not flinch: he saved the first with an ace and the second when Murray slapped a backhand into the net after a lengthy rally, and went on to hold serve with another ace.

Cilic quickly took full advantage of his opponent's lapse in concentration and broke in the very next game as first a double fault and then a forehand wide off the top of the net put Murray on the back foot.

The 20-year-old was near-flawless from then on, comfortably serving out the set and quickly taking control of the second set as he again broke in the first game, and then again in the third as Murray looped a forehand return well long.

The sole wobble from Cilic was a double fault as he served for the set to give Murray a glimmer of hope, but the Croat quickly produced a service winner straight down the middle before serving out with an ace.

And when Murray dropped his serve in the opening game of the third set by sending a forehand sailing well wide, it was clear that it would not be his day. Cilic's serve remained impregnable, and Murray was broken again in the seventh game as the younger player continued to carve the Scot apart with his blistering forehands.

The Croatian's nerveless display was capped off in fine style as he served himself into his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final at the first attempt, with Murray's forehand hit too long down the line summing up his disappointing day.
