Rino

How to mend a broken heart…..

Milan fans get shirty with Shevchenko over Cardiff kiss

The Guardian

Chelsea's Andriy Shevchenko is at the centre of a shirt-kissing rumpus after his celebration of the goal he scored against Liverpool in the Community Shield drew criticism from his former club's fans.
It was Shevchenko's first appearance in a competitive fixture for the Premiership champions following his £30m transfer from Milan and the Ukrainian appeared to raise his new shirt to his lips when he scored the equaliser in Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to the FA Cup holders in Cardiff.

That led to complaints reported in Italy from the tifosi of the San Siro club - where Shevchenko spent seven years - and the forward yesterday tried to save the excellent relationship he had with the Milan fans during his time there. "I'm telling the truth: the only shirt I have ever kissed was my own country's," he said. "When I celebrate a goal I never think what I am doing. I never thought I was doing that. It was not my intention.
"In Milan, it was like my family. I won over the supporters with the quality of my game, my football, and I was there for seven years. I won them over not with my celebrations or with any gestures but with hard work and my ability on the pitch and I want to do the same thing at Chelsea."

Frank Lampard is confident Shevchenko will have a major impact on the English game - just as he did in Italy. "I have been trying to work on my link with Andriy," said the midfielder, who supplied the pass for Shevchenko's goal on Sunday. "There is much more to come because we have only been training together for two weeks but I don't think it will be that difficult because he is such a great player.

"Didier [Drogba] has been a powerful force for us in attack and I am sure he will continue to be so. But Andriy is a different type of player, someone we have not really had before. He looks good already and we know he will only get better so hopefully he will be the 20-plus goal a season striker most teams try to have."

Lampard also warned Chelsea's Premiership rivals that the team will not focus on Europe to such an extent that it will harm their league form. "We won't relax. We are too professional to step off the gas," he said. "We want to win everything we are involved in. All we are doing is concentrating on our own jobs. People were quick to say the title was a foregone conclusion last season but we still had to work very hard to win it and I expect it will be even harder this year."

Chelsea's captain John Terry insists his team's confidence will not be affected by the defeat in Cardiff. Jose Mourinho admitted Liverpool deserved their victory but Terry does not believe the minor setback will have an effect on Chelsea's chances of becoming only the fifth side to win three successive titles.

And with the possibility of another 90 minutes as he leads England for the first time in Wednesday's friendly against Greece, the 25-year-old is confident he and Chelsea will be fully primed for their first Premiership game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

"We would have liked to win our first trophy of the season but it doesn't affect our confidence," he said. "At times we looked very good, it is just a question of putting it all together for 90 minutes. I think you could tell we got a little bit tired in the last 10 or 15 minutes.

"We are confident about winning the title but we know it will not be easy. Liverpool are a very good side, as they were last year, and have already proved they will be strong contenders. [But] they won't be our only challengers because Manchester United and Arsenal are bound to be up there as well."
